Arts and Culture in Meridian, Idaho
Meridian cultivates its artists and local culture through various art shows, concerts and events. The Initial Point Gallery in Meridian City Hall hosts a new artist each month, and events throughout the year, such as Dairy Days in the summer and Art Week in the fall, feature local artists. Free outdoor concerts are open during July and August as part of the Concerts on Broadway series. One interesting ongoing project is Meridian’s Art Drop. Artists can place their artwork anywhere around town where whoever finds the artwork can take it home for free, nurturing both artists who are established and those who are new and upcoming while sharing their creativity with the community as a whole. Even more so, Meridian celebrates its people with multiple public events for every season, from the Unplug and Be Outside Week in the spring to the Meridian Community Block Party in the fall. Local restaurants are showcased in the Taste of Meridian dinner, accompanying the State of the City Address by the mayor each year. Every Thursday from May through September, downtown Meridian hosts the Meridian Urban Market (MUM to the locals), which is not only a farmer’s market but an artisan marketplace full of tasty food, beer and wine, local art, and live musical performances. Most events are family friendly, but certain events focus on kids and youth, such as the Youth Farmer’s Market and Ignite Youth, which gives local youth the opportunity to present their brilliant and unique ideas to the community.
